Historical Science

Undergraduate Program (S1)

The Undergraduate Program in Historical Science of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was established in 1968. Since then, the program has produced many outstanding students and influential historians throughout Indonesia. This study program's main focus is the study of past events in a broad context, encompassing geography, health, culture, economics, politics, arts, religion, and the military. Supported by lecturers who are experts and certified in the field of history and the use of an integrated curriculum, we are committed to providing an interactive education and learning experience to our students.

Our main goal is to produce the best individuals in the field of history who are competent and ready to compete on a national and international scale. Graduates of our study program have various career opportunities, including in universities, archival centers, museums, government agencies, or even as freelance writers.

History

1968

The History Department was established in 1968 by Drs. Danil Ahmad. However, in its early years, no students enrolled until two years later.

1970/1971

In the 1970/1971 academic year, the first batch of students registered in the Department of History consisted of 7 (seven) individuals, including 2 (two) students from the regular admission pathway and 5 (five) transfer students from the English Department.

1984

In 1984, based on the education implementation permit issued by the Director General of Higher Education of the Department of Education and Culture with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 131/Dikti/Kep/1984 dated November 2, 1984, the History Department was formalized into the Undergraduate (S-1) Program in Historical Science.

1996

In 1996, based on the results of an administrative evaluation conducted by the Director General of Higher Education of the Department of Education and Culture, the implementation of the Undergraduate (S-1) Program in Historical Science was strengthened with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 208/Dikti/Kep/1996 dated July 11, 1996.

This organization is called Himpunan Mahasiswa Ilmu Sejarah (Historical Science Student Association), abbreviated as HIMIS. HIMIS was established in Medan on February 22, 2003, as a transformation of Ikatan Mahasiswa Sejarah (IMIS) for an unspecified period of time. This organization is a student association within the Undergraduate Program in Historical Science of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Cultural Science.
