Regional History

Regional History

Regional History in the Historical Science undergraduate study program focuses on an in-depth study of the history of a particular region or area, whether on a local, regional, national, or international scale. Students in this field study the cultural, political, economic, social, and geographical evolution of specific regions over a period of time. This study includes an in-depth understanding of the factors that shaped and influenced the development of the region, including external aspects such as contact with other cultures, migration, and trade. In addition, internal aspects such as local politics, economic policies, and social dynamics are also a major focus of research. Students learn to analyze various historical sources, including documents, artifacts, travel reports, and archaeological evidence to gain insight into the lives and events that took place in the region. They also learn historical research methodologies that enable them to construct accurate and comprehensive historical narratives about the region. The importance of historical context in understanding the present and shaping the future is emphasized in this discipline group. Indonesian History

Indonesian History

Indonesian History in the Historical Sciences undergraduate study program focuses on an in-depth study of Indonesian history from various aspects. Students in this field study the cultural, political, economic, social, and geographical development of Indonesia throughout its history, from prehistoric times to contemporary times. This study includes an in-depth understanding of the formation and socio-political changes that occurred in Indonesia, including interactions with other nations and their influence on national identity. Students also study the role of important figures, key events, and social movements that shaped Indonesia as a sovereign nation. Analyzing various historical sources such as ancient manuscripts, archives, artifacts, and historical relics is the main focus, with the aim of understanding the daily lives of Indonesian people in the past. Students also learn historical research methodologies that help them develop critical and analytical skills in analyzing various aspects of Indonesian history. The "Indonesian History" scientific group aims to equip students with a broad knowledge and understanding of Indonesian history, enabling them to become experts capable of contributing to education, research, government, culture, and other related sectors, as well as encouraging love and concern for history and national identity.
Local History

Local History

Local History in the Historical Science undergraduate study program aims to deepen knowledge and understanding of the history of a particular region or area. The main focus is the study of history from a local perspective, examining events, figures, and dynamics that specifically occur at the local level. Students in this field study the history of specific regions, such as cities, villages, tribes, or geographical areas, as well as people's lives, culture, and local wisdom in the past. They learn to identify sources of local history, including written reports, oral stories, archives, and other relevant historical relics. The importance of linking local history with national and global history is also emphasized. Students are encouraged to understand how events at the local level interact with and influence events at the larger level, and vice versa. This helps them to see a more comprehensive and holistic picture of history. Studying local history provides a closer look at the identity and cultural richness of a region. Students are prepared to become local history researchers and engineers who can play a role in understanding and preserving cultural heritage in local communities, as well as making meaningful contributions to the development of national culture as a whole.

Learning Outcomes

The USU Faculty of Cultural Science Undergraduate (S-1) Program in Historical Science has learning outcomes that encompass the basic concepts of history and historical phenomena (regional history, Indonesian history, and local history) as well as publications that serve as learning materials in accordance with noble values and local wisdom. The target of these learning outcomes is to equip historical science students and graduates with the necessary skills to compete in the world of work and the academic world.

Learning Outcomes
1 The ability to explain the basic concepts of history and historical phenomena, including regional history, Indonesian history, and local history, in a chronological and thematic manner.
2 The ability to compose writings based on historical methods and the fundamentals of historical methodology as well as present them in popular or journalistic writing from a historical perspective.
3 The ability to carry out cultural advancement tasks through the management of historical and cultural heritage for tourism development based on noble values and local wisdom.
4 The ability to apply historical knowledge to produce graduates with an entrepreneurial mindset who think logically and utilize information technology to create employment opportunities.
5 The ability to develop scientific descriptions based on research in the field of historical science in the form of a thesis or final project report and upload them on the university's website.
6 The ability to perform independently, resiliently, and with integrity.
