FIB USU PR - 4 - 5 July 2024, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) in collaboration with The Office of Islamic Committee of Bangkok Metropolis, Thammasat University Thailand and Pasar Kamu carried out international community service with the theme "The Strengthening of Muslim Small Scale Traders in Bangkok Thailand and Pasar Kamu Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia" to Muslim traders in Bangkok. The Director of the Center for East Asian Studies at Thammasat University, the President of the Office of the Muslim Committee of Bangkok Metropolis, Muslim traders, and administrators of Bangkok Muslim traders' organizations were also present and gave speeches.

This international community service activity includes training, discussions and exchanging experiences in selling and marketing local (culinary) products between Muslim traders in Bangkok and Pasar Kamu to improve the economy and community welfare.

Lead of the FIB USU International Community Service Team, Prof. Dr. Drs. Budi Agustono, M.S. explained that international community service activities were carried out in the meeting room of The Office of Islamic Committee of Bangkok Metropolis. This activity was attended by thirty local women traders who produce local culinary and modern packaged culinary products in an atmosphere of training, discussion and open exchange of ideas in conveying experiences of local economic activities and marketing networks to various souvenir outlets and using offline and online applications and market their products.

"Meanwhile, FIB USU International Community Service provides training materials and experience in organizing past traditional culinary traders and the Kamu Market management system which is held every Sunday in Denai Lama Village, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, which was delivered by Dedi Sofyan, founder and manager of Pasar Kamu," said Prof. Budi.

Prof. Budi explained that the experience of trying to preserve and maintain traditional culinary delights from the past which were cooked and packaged in a non-traditional way which brought in economic income for the community was an interesting experience for Bangkok Muslim traders. This international community service ended with an agreement that Bangkok Muslim traders would visit the Kamu Deli Serdang Market, North Sumatra as an exchange visit to see the management of the preservation and promotion of traditional culinary past which quickly stimulated and revived the economy of the local community.

After completing the community service activities, the FIB USU International Community Service Team was guided to see the location where modern and contemporary packaged local culinary creations are made with large capital in Bangkok while showing and tasting dates cultivated by Bangkok Muslim traders on their agricultural land.
