FIB USU PR- on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Socialization on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Recognition of Learning Programs Outside the Study Program (PLPS) at the O Building, First Floor, Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The event featured speakers from the Directorate of Educational Development, Universitas Sumatera Utara, as part of the University's commitment to strengthening academic policy implementation and advancing sustainable higher education.
The socialization was attended by Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, together with Dr. Zulfan, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Relations; Ely Hayati Nasution, S.S., M.Si., CIT, Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure; and Andi Pratama Lubis, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization. Faculty members and administrative staff also participated, reflecting the Faculty's collective commitment to enhancing educational quality and supporting academic policies aligned with the University's strategic development.
The program aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the role of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education while introducing the Recognition of Learning Programs Outside the Study Program (PLPS) as an initiative to develop a more adaptive, flexible, and learning outcomes-oriented curriculum.
During the presentation, representatives from the Directorate of Educational Development explained that the implementation of the SDGs in higher education extends beyond education, research, and community engagement. It also requires effective academic governance that supports sustainable development and institutional transformation.
The speakers further introduced the PLPS policy, which enables students to gain academic recognition for learning experiences undertaken outside their home study program. The initiative encourages interdisciplinary learning, broadens students' academic perspectives, and equips them with competencies that respond to the evolving needs of society and the global workforce.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Zulfan, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Relations, emphasized that the socialization served as an important opportunity to strengthen the academic community's understanding of the University's strategic educational policies.
"Through this program, we hope that all faculty members and administrative staff will develop a shared understanding of the implementation of the SDGs and the Recognition of Learning Programs Outside the Study Program. Such alignment will ensure effective implementation and contribute to improving the quality of education at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences," he said.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which participants actively exchanged ideas, raised questions, and shared perspectives on the implementation of both initiatives. The dialogue reflected a shared commitment to fostering innovative, collaborative, and quality-oriented academic practices across the Faculty.
Through initiatives such as this, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable higher education by strengthening the capacity of its academic community and supporting the implementation of adaptive learning policies that prepare graduates to meet future challenges.
