Culture continues to thrive when each generation chooses to embrace, preserve, and celebrate it. Driven by this spirit, the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, proudly hosted the 28th Temu Budaya Nusantara (TBN XXVIII), organized by the Association of Indonesian Regional Language and Literature Students (IMBASADI). Carrying the theme "Revitalizing Local Culture and the Role of the Younger Generation," the event brought together students from across Indonesia to exchange ideas, experiences, and creative initiatives aimed at preserving the nation's rich cultural heritage.
Held from December 15–20, 2022, the event featured a series of inspiring activities, including a National Seminar, National Workshop, and National Congress. The program also showcased a variety of competitions, such as Scientific Paper Writing, National Essay Writing, Traditional Dance, Poetry Writing and Recitation, Podcast Production, Comic Strip Creation, Cultural Documentary, and the Nusantara TikTok Competition. By combining academic discussions with creative expression, the event demonstrated that preserving culture is no longer limited to conventional approaches—it can also flourish through innovation, digital media, and creative platforms that resonate with today's generation.
Through the successful organization of Temu Budaya Nusantara XXVIII, the Batak Literature Study Program reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration among students from diverse cultural backgrounds while fostering a deeper appreciation for Indonesia's regional languages, literature, and traditions. More than just a cultural gathering, the event highlighted the powerful role of young people in ensuring that cultural heritage continues to evolve and remain relevant in a rapidly changing world. After all, culture is not merely a legacy of the past—it is a living identity that grows stronger with every new generation.
