Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara Holds Inaugural Matriculation for Master’s Students in Art Creation and Studies
MEDAN – Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU) conducted an inaugural matriculation program for incoming students of the Master’s (S2) Study Program in Art Creation and Studies for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. The program, which spanned two days from Friday (21 August) to Saturday (22 August), was held on-site at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences.
The academic proceedings commenced with an official opening by the Dean of FIB USU, Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D. In his address, he underscored the significance of the matriculation period as an essential phase for postgraduate students to consolidate their comprehension of theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches, thereby facilitating preparedness for advanced research and creative practice.
This matriculation event marks a historic milestone for the faculty, as it is the first such program organized independently by the Master’s Program in Art Creation and Studies since its official establishment. This initiative underscores FIB USU’s commitment to strengthening academic foundations and graduate quality in the fields of arts and cultural studies and creation.
Over the course of the two-day event, new students received intensive instruction from three speakers—Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Ikhwanuddin Nasution, M.Si., and Dr. Vanesia Amelia Sebayang, S.Sn., M.Sn.—covering topics ranging from curriculum introductions and insights into art methodology to orientation regarding the university's academic system. With the conclusion of this matriculation agenda, the new Master’s students in Art Creation and Studies (Academic Year 2026/2027) are deemed ready to begin their coursework in the upcoming semester. The inaugural matriculation program organised by the Master’s Study Program in Art Creation and Studies aligns with SDG Goal 4: Quality Education. It aims to harmonise understanding regarding theory, methodology, and research readiness. This initiative reflects the commitment of FIB USU—as an institution—to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and relevance of quality higher education.
