Chinese Language

Undergraduate Program (S-1)

The Undergraduate Program in Chinese Language of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was established in 2007. Over the years, this study program has successfully produced outstanding students and highly competent Chinese language experts spread across various regions in Indonesia. This study program's main focus is the in-depth study of Mandarin, including the study of Chinese language, literature, and culture. Students will be taught all aspects of the Chinese language, from word structure, correct pronunciation, grammar, etc. Supported by teaching staff who are experts and certified in Chinese language teaching nationwide as well as the use of an integrated curriculum, we are committed to providing our students with an interactive education and learning experience.

With great pleasure, I am pleased to welcome you to the Undergraduate Program in Chinese Language at the Faculty of Cultural Science, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Welcome to the website of the Chinese Language Study Program of Universitas Sumatera Utara. In order to achieve the vision, mission, and goals of a good and high-quality study program, an interactive, dynamic, and easily understandable information platform is needed, such as a website. The Chinese Language Study Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara was formerly known as the Chinese Literature Study Program, established in 2007. It is one of the ten undergraduate programs within the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Cultural Science. The name change from Chinese Literature Study Program to Chinese Language Study Program occurred in 2019 through the issuance of the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara. This change also affected the degree awarded, from Bachelor of Literature (S.S.) to Bachelor of Linguistics (S.Li.). Currently, the Chinese Language Study Program has obtained a Very Good accreditation rating. We are responsible for preparing students to meet the direction and goals of education in the fields of language, literature, and culture so as to produce graduates who possess the expected competencies and are capable of working with satisfactory outcomes and performances. In addition to the information provided, the Chinese Language Study Program website offers access to educational developments for prospective students and the general public in a transparent, open, and accountable manner. USU felt quite like a home to me. It was one of my happiest moments to be able to finish my studies at USU’s Chinese Literature Department. Although it was considerably short, the memories made there were endless and never once would I foresee this event taking place in my life, but it did. Being a cum laude graduate and the first high-achieving student from the Faculty of Cultural Science has definitely become my source of pride for this year. The environment itself at the Chinese Literature Department is very well and conducive. The students are free to voice their opinions, and the lecturers are very supportive. It was a really fun process there, learning as if everything was driven by a passion for learning from both sides of the party. The study atmosphere was really comfortable, with complete facilities and a harmonious relationship nurtured between the students, the staff, and the lecturers at the Chinese Literature Department. I am very proud to say that I am an alumna of USU’s Chinese Literature major. They were very caring, encouraging each and every student to pursue not only academic achievements but also achievements in research and community service, both national and international.
