Undergraduate Program (S-1)

The Undergraduate Program in Chinese Language of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was established in 2007. Over the years, this study program has successfully produced outstanding students and highly competent Chinese language experts spread across various regions in Indonesia. This study program's main focus is the in-depth study of Mandarin, including the study of Chinese language, literature, and culture. Students will be taught all aspects of the Chinese language, from word structure, correct pronunciation, grammar, etc. Supported by teaching staff who are experts and certified in Chinese language teaching nationwide as well as the use of an integrated curriculum, we are committed to providing our students with an interactive education and learning experience.

Our main goal is for students to become the best competent individuals in the Chinese literature field, ready to compete nationally and internationally. Graduates of our study program have a wide range of career opportunities, from becoming translators, journalists, and professionals in the human resources field to the field of public relations.

History

2007

The establishment of the Chinese Literature Study Program was initiated by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. dr. H. Chairuddin P. Lubis, DTM&H, Sp. A(K), in 2007 and received full support from the Advisors to the Rector of USU. The implementation of the Chinese Literature Study Program was based on the Permit Letter from the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, Number 3063/D/T/2006, dated August 23, 2006. The Chinese Literature Study Program at the USU Faculty of Cultural Science started admitting students in the 2007/2008 academic year. Admissions were conducted through the Independent Regular Student Admission Selection (SPMPRM). In 2007, there were 51 students interested in the Chinese Literature Study Program, and a total of 42 students were accepted.

2017

In 2017, the Chinese Literature Study Program received a B accreditation rating based on Decree Number 0403/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/I/2017, with an expiration date of January 26, 2022.

August 2017

According to the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 257/M/KPT/2017 on the Name of Study Programs in Higher Education Institutions, the degree conferred upon completion of the Chinese Language Study Program is Bachelor of Linguistics (S.Li.).

2019

In 2019, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara issued Decree Number 1044/UN5.1.R/SK/PRS/2019 on February 4, 2019, on the Change of Name for the Chinese Literature Study Program to the Chinese Language Study Program for the undergraduate level at the Faculty of Cultural Science of the university.

2021

In 2021, the number of lecturers in the Chinese Language Study Program was 7, including 2 civil servant (PNS) lecturers, 4 permanent non-civil servant lecturers, and 1 non-permanent lecturer. The program had 27 active students, and the total number of alumni was 423.
