Alumni of the FIB USU Ethnomusicology Study Program across generations who attended the Alumni Gathering in Jakarta this time were those who have worked in several companies and government and private institutions at manager level such as senior manager of SCTV television, Commissioner at IKJ, Chair of the Working Group at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Editor in Chief at Media Agrofarm Indonesia, Head of Binkemil Subdisbinkemilsik Diswatpersau at the Indonesian Air Force, Danton at the Indonesian Army, Head of TU Subdivision Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Head of the Central Change Agent at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, and others. The alumni are part of USU, of course must support and contribute and participate in this ranking," said Hubari Gulo.
FIB USUPR - On Thursday, January 11, 2023, Head of the Ethnomusicology Study Program Dra. Rithaony, M.A. and Hubari Gulo, S.Sn., M.Sn., held an Alumni Gathering for the Ethnomusicology Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU). Dra. Rithaony, M.A. and Hubari Gulo, S.Sn., M.Sn. happily welcome all invited guests to Kecapi Room C, 2nd Floor, Sofyan Hotel Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta. The presence of invited guests from the Jakarta and Bandung areas was a cross section of alumni from FIB USU Ethnomusicology Study Program. This activity is in the context of EQUITY USU Towards Ranking 500 World Class Universities.
"Welcome and thank you to colleagues and alumni of the FIB USU Ethnomusicology Study Program who were willing to donate their time to attend the FIB USU Ethnomusicology Study Program Alumni Gathering this time in Jakarta," said Dra. Rithaony, Chair of the USU FIB Ethnomusicology Study Program, followed by a welcome greeting from Hubari Gulo, Head of the Ethnomusicology Study Program Laboratory.
In her speech, Dra. Rithaony explained that the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Recognition (EQUITY) Program is an important step to improve USU's quality, so that it can reach 500 World Class University rankings. With a focus on developing high-quality human resources, developing relevant research, and innovation in learning approaches.
She further said that the aim of this alumni meeting was, firstly, to build strong synergy between alumni and the alma mater, secondly to improve the reputation of USU graduates through the performance of alumni in their respective workplaces, thirdly to provide input on improving the quality of graduates. Ethnomusicology Study Program alumni are expected to contribute to supporting USU in achieving World Class University status, especially in improving the QS World University Rankings ranking from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a world-class university ranking agency.
In the 2023 ranking, employer reputation will only reach 6.2 percent of the 15 percent weight in the QS assessment indicators. If we refer to USU's current ranking, based on world rankings, namely Time Higher Education (THE) and QS, USU is ranked 1201. Based on THE ranking of universities in Asia in 2023, USU is ranked 18th, and QS Asia is ranked 14. Employer Reputation Tracker 2024 shows that USU is ranked 16th nationally out of 26 existing rankings. Globally, USU is ranked 967th out of 1519 available rankings.
In the discussion session, alumni asked, "In what part do alumni participate? There are 3 indicators of the role of alumni in improving USU's ranking. First, the academic reputation indicator weighs 1 percent in the QS assessment, namely for alumni who work as lecturers at universities outside USU, then it is recommended to vote if selected as a respondent, secondly, employment outcome has a weight of 5 percent in the QS assessment, namely for alumni who have entered the world of work, they are advised to fill out the survey requested by USU in tracking graduates, third, employment outcome has a weight of 15 percent in the QS assessment Namely, alumni are expected to have a positive influence on the development of their respective companies so that USU gets recognition, it is their duty to convey USU's developments to company leaders, they are willing to be resource persons as practitioner lecturers for campuses, they are willing to be Survey Respondents for QS, as explained by Dra.Rithaony .
Closing the discussion, Dra. Rithaony stated that USU is trying to improve its QS ranking in 2024 by targeting an Employer Reputation indicator value of 12 percent. Alumni are expected to contribute through activities such as filling out surveys requested by USU in tracking graduates.

Rithaony conveyed a message from the Dean of FIB USU, it is hoped that all alumni who have occupied strategic positions in various institutions, agencies and companies will make maximum contributions to developing and improving USU's reputation at the national and global level.
