FIB USU PR - On Friday, May 8, 2026, lecturers of the Ethnomusicology Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), successfully organized an AI Seminar titled “Rewriting North Sumatra: AI in History, Space, and Culture” at Rumah Mata Theater Studio, Jalan Sei Siguti, Medan. The event was part of the pre-festival series leading up to ZAMATRA AI Fest #1, which will be held on May 22–23, 2026.
The seminar featured three speakers: Ahmad Arief Tarigan, a lecturer at FIB USU; Bayu Rahmat Putra, an AI Creator; and Marwan Syahputra, a Digipreneur. The event was attended by approximately 30 participants from various backgrounds and was supported by the Cultural Endowment Fund Beneficiaries of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
Through interactive discussions, participants and speakers explored the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in examining the upstream and downstream landscapes of North Sumatra from academic, content creator, and creative economy perspectives. The seminar also served as a space for reflection on the social, cultural, and economic relations of North Sumatran society in the AI era, while opening opportunities for cross-professional collaboration in utilizing AI as a medium for narrative restoration, creative production, and regional creative economy development.
This activity is expected to become a collaborative platform for the people of North Sumatra in building a creative and innovative technology-based vision while preserving local cultural values.
