Linguistics

Doctoral Program (S-3)

The Doctoral Program in Linguistics of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that studies various aspects of linguistics in more depth. Through a comprehensive learning process as well as supported by expert and qualified lecturers, students in this program will be equipped with extensive knowledge and skills in language analysis as well as a deep understanding of various linguistic phenomena.

This program aims to produce linguistic experts who are able to contribute significantly to the development of linguistics, both in academic and practical contexts. Upon completing this program, students will obtain the Doctor (Dr.) degree.

History

2004

The Doctoral Program in Linguistics of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Cultural Science (FIB USU) was established based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education No. 4880/D/T/2004 dated December 31, 2004.

2009

On January 22, 2009, the Decree of the Rector of USU No. 188/H.1.2/SK/PRS/2009 was issued to establish the Literature Studies Concentration, and the Decree of the Rector of USU No. 189/H.1.2/SK/PRS/2009 was issued to establish the Translation Studies Concentration.

2014

With the enactment of the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 49 of 2014 on National Standards for Higher Education, the FIB USU Doctoral Program in Linguistics produces graduates with a profile as language researchers, language consultants, and language experts. Up to this point, the Doctoral Program in Linguistics has produced 86 doctors, most of whom work as lecturers at various universities, both state and private, especially in the North Sumatra Province and the Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province.

Ikatan Alumni Linguistik Universitas Sumatera Utara (IAL USU)

Ikatan Alumni Linguistik Universitas Sumatera Utara (IAL or the Linguistics Alumni Association) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a community of alumni who have completed the Linguistics Study Program at USU, either in the master’s study program (S-2) or the doctoral study program (S-3). IAL USU acts as a network that supports the exchange of knowledge, experience, and employment opportunities in the world of linguistics for alumni of the USU Linguistics Study Programs and contributes to the development of linguistics disciplines in Indonesia.
