Rudy Sofyan was born in Kabanjahe on 13 November 1972. He is a lecturer in English and Linguistics Study Programs at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara. He finished his doctoral degree in Linguistics in 2016, majoring in Translation Studies. He joined a Sandwich-like Program at Victoria University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2012. He is also a freelance interpreter and translator. Before holding the position of the Head of the International Affairs Office at USU, he was appointed as the Co-Director of the USU Language Center. He has published some English Teaching and Translation Studies articles in several reputable international journals. He has published a book entitled "Kajian Terjemahan: Panduan Praktik dan Penelitian Terjemahan (Translation Studies: A Guide to Translation Practice and Research)". His research interests are in language teaching and translation process.
