FIB USU PR - on 15–17 October 2026 The Head of the Undergraduate History Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), participated in a series of academic events comprising an international seminar and the National Congress of the Indonesian Association of History Study Programs (PPSI), hosted by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in Surakarta, Central Java.
The programme included the ICCuLL 2026 International Seminar, a national seminar entitled “History in the Digital Era: Developing an Inclusive, Adaptive, and Sustainable Ecosystem,” and the PPSI National Congress. These events provided an academic platform for history programme leaders and scholars to exchange ideas, broaden their perspectives, and discuss the development of historical studies amid ongoing digital transformation.
The national seminar highlighted the importance of developing an inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable ecosystem for history education and research. The use of digital technologies in historical studies is expected to broaden access to historical sources, support the documentation and preservation of historical heritage, and improve the quality of teaching and research.
During the PPSI National Congress, Dr. Waskito Widi Wardojo, M.A., from Universitas Sebelas Maret was elected Chairperson of PPSI for the 2026–2028 term. The composition of the new executive board is scheduled for further discussion within one month following the congress.
The programme also included a visit to the Sangiran Early Man Museum on 17 October 2026. The visit offered participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of prehistoric remains, human evolution, and the importance of research, documentation, and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage.
A significant outcome of the participation was the signing of two cooperation agreements in the form of Implementation Arrangements (IAs), one with PPSI and the other with Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). These agreements represent a strategic step towards strengthening institutional relations and creating opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and the advancement of historical studies.
The participation of the Head of the Undergraduate History Study Program at FIB USU reflects the faculty’s commitment to improving the quality of history education by strengthening academic networks and inter-institutional partnerships. The events also provided an opportunity to explore developments in historical research methodologies, the application of digital technologies, and initiatives to preserve historical and cultural heritage.
Through this participation, FIB USU is expected to expand its collaborations with universities and academic organisations while contributing to the advancement of education, research, and the preservation of Indonesia’s history in an inclusive and sustainable manner.
