Bahasa Mandarin - The Mandarin Language Study Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the Mandarin Language Student Association (HUASHAN), successfully organized the Art and Fundraising Exhibition (藝術與捐血活動) on Thursday, June 26, 2025. Carrying the message “One Space, Two Meanings: Where the Beauty of Art Meets the Warmth of Humanity,” the event provided students with a platform to express their creativity while strengthening their commitment to social responsibility.
The event brought together artistic and cultural expression with social initiatives in a single program. Through this concept, students were not only given opportunities to showcase their artistic talents and creative works but were also encouraged to make direct contributions to humanitarian efforts.
One of the main activities was a visual arts and painting exhibition, featuring student artworks inspired by Chinese culture. The works not only highlighted aesthetic values but also conveyed philosophical meanings and the students’ perspectives on Chinese art and culture.
In addition to the visual arts exhibition, visitors were treated to a variety of artistic and cultural performances, including creative dance performances featuring traditional attire, regional musical performances, and fashion showcases featuring traditional Chinese clothing such as Cheongsam and Hanfu. These performances created a lively atmosphere while providing students with an opportunity to introduce the richness of Chinese arts and culture to the wider community.
Beyond artistic activities, the event also featured blood donation and fundraising activities as part of its social engagement initiatives. In collaboration with social organizations, students and visitors were invited to participate in the blood donation drive to support people in need.
The strong enthusiasm demonstrated by students and visitors was evident throughout the exhibition area and blood donation station. The high level of participation highlighted the potential of arts and cultural activities as an effective platform for fostering social awareness, solidarity, and a spirit of giving among students and the wider community.
Through the Art and Fundraising Exhibition, students of the Mandarin Language Study Program at USU demonstrated not only their creativity and appreciation for Chinese arts and culture but also their commitment to humanitarian values. The event demonstrated how arts and cultural education can go hand in hand with character development and social responsibility.
The event is expected to encourage students to remain actively engaged in creative and socially meaningful initiatives while strengthening the role of higher education in nurturing a generation that is creative, culturally aware, socially responsible, and committed to contributing to society.
