FIB USU PR - On Thursday, February 29, 2024, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of the Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) received a visit from the Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia consisting of the Head of the Translator Development Center, Sri Wahyu Utami, S.IP., M.E., Head of Evaluation and Competence, Nurmeilawati, S.S., M.M., Data Processor in the Evaluation Subfield, Arif Sudibyo, A.Md., Performance Analyst in the Assessment Subfield, Ilham Tri Ade Wicaksono, S.E., and Staff at the Translator Development Center, Fika Suci Utami. This visit was attended by the Dean, Head of Administration, Chair and Secretary of the FIB USU Study Program, and Head of the International Affairs Office (KUI) Prof. Dr. Rudy Sofyan, M. Hum.
The visit began with welcoming remarks from the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. The Dean of FIB USU said that the implementation of the Monitoring and Evaluation activities for the Development of Functional Translator Positions (JFP) aims to collect data, information and input as monitoring and evaluation material in the context of improving and perfecting the implementation of JFP development policies in government agencies, encouraging understanding of the urgency of appointing Functional Translator Officers (PFP) within government agencies, and the involvement of academics/university experts in formulating policies and implementing JFP development programs.
The visit continued with welcoming remarks from the Head of the Translator Development Center, Sri Wahyu Utami, S.IP., M.E. She said that apart from monitoring and evaluating, this visit was carried out in the context of discussions to obtain input and suggestions regarding JFP development, language development and knowledge about translation. Apart from that, discussions will be held with academics and experts at FIB USU who can open up collaboration to increase translator competence through the preparation of training curricula and various JFP development policies, involvement as writers and/or Translation Journal Bestari Partners.

Monev is carried out by collecting data and information through direct discussions, both with user agencies that have received the benefits of JFP guidance, as well as with government agencies that have carried out translations by civil servants who have not been appointed in the JFP. Next, the data will be analyzed to obtain recommendations for improvements in implementing the JFP development policy.
The target of the Monev this time is the government agency that has carried out translations by civil servants who have not been appointed to the JFP to encourage the appointment of these civil servants to the JFP, namely the North Sumatra Provincial Government. Monev to the North Sumatra Provincial Government aims to increase understanding of the urgency of the presence of Functional Translation Officers (PFP) to support the regional government's efforts to collaborate with partners in friendly countries. The target of this activity is to encourage the appointment of PFP within the North Sumatra Provincial Government.
The outcomes of this activity are recommendations for improvement and refinement of the implementation of JFP development policies, local government agencies' understanding of the urgency of appointing PFPs and the involvement of academics/experts in implementing the JFP development program.
