Last year, USU appointed 5 study programs (English Literature, Arabic Literature, Mandarin Language, Indonesian Literature and Malay Literature) to be included in international accreditation, and the SER document was sent by USU's Quality Assurance Agency (BPM) to the international accreditation agency Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA). FIB USU is waiting for a visitation by FIBAA institutions in the 9th – 10th months.
FIB USU PR - On Friday, April 19, 2024, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of the Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) carried out Technical Guidance on Self Evaluation Report (SER) Preparation at Le Polonia Hotel. The technical guidance also invited resource persons from Universitas Diponegoro, Mr. Prihantoro, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. This technical guidance is carried out specifically for 5 Study Programs which are prepared for international accreditation, including the Batak Literature Study Program, Japanese Literature, Library and Information Science, Historical Science and Ethnomusicology.
Vice Dean I Prof. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D. in his speech said that anticipating Rector's appointment of prospective study programs for international accreditation, the faculty made a Work Plan and Budget (RKA) for the 5 study programs that were not yet included in Clusters 4 and 5. Vice Dean I also said that the technical guidance was carried out in one day, therefore he hopes that the study program can actively ask questions to resource persons who have knowledge and experience regarding the preparation of the SER.
Dean Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. in her speech said that in order to realize the ideals of Higher Education, a performance assessment of State Universities (PTN) must be carried out which is assessed based on the Key Performance Indicators (IKU). This is the PTN's performance contract with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). Likewise, the achievement of PTN internationalization is stated in USU's phase 2 strategic plan. So, universities must implement programs that support IKU 8, namely the International Standard Study Program.

In a meeting with the Rector of USU, a plan was made with the head of the USU library to create classes for 5 study programs in the USU library. As well as the Chair of the FIBAA Institute can be invited to the USU Digitalization Building. The Dean said that FIB needs to prepare in the future for these 5 study programs. The last 5 study programs had many obstacles faced, but Mr. Prihantoro as a companion in preparing the SER remained patient in conveying his knowledge and experience.
The resource person explained that in preparing the SER there were 5 chapters that would be filled in. Starting from the international orientation of study program design to quality assurance and quality development. Apart from these 5 chapters, Appendices are also compiled which are organizational structures, statistical data, admissions processes, guidelines, module descriptions, regulations, and so on. After the SER is finalized and accepted by FIBAA, the faculty SER must be linked to the faculty website so that assessors and other parties involved can easily access these documents.
In her closing, the Dean expressed her thanks to all participants who took part in the technical guidance, to the resource persons who had explained their material and experiences in preparing the SER, as well as to the moderator who had summarized the material from the technical guidance speakers. The Dean hopes that the 5 study programs can be submitted for international accreditation in 2025. FIB will convey to the Rector that the 5 study programs have carried out Outcome Based Education (OBE) and SER activities, so that the 5 study programs are ready to be submitted.
The Dean hopes that based on messages from resource persons, from now, the 5 study programs will be able to prepare Curriculum Vitae (CV), Semester Learning Plans (RPS) for each course and translated into English, supporting documents, a list of cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) can be coordinated with the Head of Cooperation Subdivision and Vice Dean III. From previous study program experience, the documents to be submitted are linked to Google Drive, so that the 5 study programs can work together in filling out the FIBAA form.
