As part of a commitment to strengthening regional language preservation and promoting literacy among younger generations, the North Sumatra Language Center, in collaboration with the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, organized a “Socialization on Translation and Writing Bilingual Children’s Storybooks.” This program serves as an educational platform for students, educators, writers, and language enthusiasts to explore the significance of translation and the development of high-quality children’s literature rooted in local cultural heritage.
Through this event, participants gained insights into effective translation techniques, creative approaches to writing engaging children’s stories, and the important role of bilingual books in maintaining the vitality of regional languages in an increasingly globalized world. The program highlights how literature can function not only as an educational resource but also as a medium for transmitting cultural values and identity to future generations.
Aligned with the spirit of the Merdeka Belajar (Independent Learning) initiative and regional language revitalization efforts, this activity reflects a shared commitment to fostering a new generation of talented translators and writers. By encouraging creativity, innovation, and cultural awareness, the program aims to inspire the creation of bilingual literary works that bridge local wisdom with contemporary educational needs and contribute to the sustainability of Indonesia’s rich linguistic diversity.
