FIB USU PR - On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the Malay Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), University of North Sumatra (USU) conducted the Signing of MoA, IA and Handover of Weaving Tools and Public Lecture "Malay Songket and Its Development" with IR Songket Deli Serdang North Sumatra. Attended by Dr. Tengku Syarfina, S.S., M.Hum as advisor to IR Songket Deli Serdang North Sumatra, Irfania Ramadhani Lubis CEO of IR Songket Deli Serdang North Sumatra, Dean of FIB USU Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein M.A, Vice Dean I Prof. Dr. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D, Vice Dean III Mhd. Pujiono M.Hum., Ph.D, Head of Research, Community Service and Cooperation Sub-Division Mrs. Adry Wiyanni Ridwan, S.S, Head of Malay Literature Study Program Dra. Mardiah Mawar Kembaren, M.A., Ph.D, Secretary, Lecturers of Malay Literature Study Program and Students of Malay Literature Study Program FIB USU in the FIB USU Meeting Room.
In this activity, the Dean of FIB USU Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein M.A, delivered a welcoming speech that we are very grateful for the Community Service, one of the FIB USU lecturers who has an MBKM Output received a Weaving tool that was donated to the Malay Literature Study Program FIB USU and it is hoped that the Weaving tool will become a practical tool that will be used by Students.
The Dean hopes that Students who have taken courses related to Malay arts and culture can do internships at IR Songket Batangkuis so that they can be recognized.
The Dean also hopes that IR Songket can conduct Workshops/Training for FIB USU Students so that Students can also design modern Songket and the initial stages of Weaving Songket. We know that in the past Songket was used by the Nobles with Gold Thread, now innovation has been carried out by weaving with threads that are more comfortable to wear for everyday use.
CEO of IR Songket Deli Serdang North Sumatra Irfania Ramadhani Lubis conveyed the History of the establishment of IR Songket where from the findings, Medan did not yet have a Deli Malay Songket. According to History, the City of Medan has a Deli Sultan who wears Songket, therefore
"I revitalized the Songket with Malay Songket, in 2014 I introduced a new Motif, namely the Deli Tobacco Motif". Said Irfania
One of the goals is so that the Community is more familiar with Songket, Medan Malay Songket exists and the Community also knows that in the past the Sultanate Songket had certain colors such as Yellow, Green and Red. Nowadays, it is in accordance with the current era, namely Blue, Pink, Green and IR Songket can also accept orders according to Customer wishes such as color and motif selection.
"Alhamdulillah, until now, songket has developed and is run by my child, I am only a consultant. Hopefully, FIB USU students can understand Songket and are interested in Weaving Songket." Said T. Syarfina
Hopefully, this Songket will continue to develop, and make young people interested in developing Songket.
