The Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, organized a Toba Batak Script Digitalization Workshop at SMP Negeri 1 Balige as part of its commitment to preserving cultural heritage through education and technological innovation. Held on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, the workshop featured speakers from academia and cultural practitioners to introduce the Toba Batak Script to the younger generation in a more engaging, interactive, and digitally relevant way.

The workshop provided students with the opportunity to learn about the history, philosophy, and writing system of the Toba Batak Script through presentations, discussions, and hands-on practice. In addition to studying the form and function of the script, participants were also introduced to the use of digital technology as a medium for cultural preservation, enabling the Toba Batak Script to be understood not only as a historical legacy but also as a cultural identity that can be applied in modern life and continue to evolve.

Through this activity, the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, hopes to foster greater awareness and pride among the younger generation in the richness of their regional culture. The collaboration between the university, schools, and cultural stakeholders represents a strategic step toward ensuring the sustainability of ancestral heritage amid globalization. Guided by the spirit of preservation and innovation, the Toba Batak Script Digitalization Workshop is expected to inspire a generation that is accomplished, principled, and committed to preserving and promoting Batak culture as an integral part of the nation's identity.
