As part of its commitment to preserving local cultural heritage while strengthening the identity of the younger generation, the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, organized the Simalungun Batak Script Digitalization Learning Program at SMP Negeri 1 Dolok Silau during the 2024/2025 Academic Year. Conducted from 12 April to 3 May 2025, the program represents the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through collaboration between the university and the school in delivering innovative, contextual cultural education that is aligned with the advancement of digital technology.

Through this program, students were introduced to the history, philosophy, and writing system of the Simalungun Batak Script as one of the region's cultural treasures with significant historical value and as an important part of the Simalungun community's identity. Learning activities were conducted interactively through lectures, reading and writing practice, discussions, and the use of digital media as a learning tool. This approach provided a more engaging learning experience while encouraging students to understand that cultural preservation can go hand in hand with technological advancement.

The Simalungun Batak Script Digitalization Learning Program is expected to serve as a tangible effort to preserve cultural heritage in the digital era. In addition to enhancing students' knowledge of the regional script, the program also fosters a sense of pride, awareness, and responsibility for preserving local culture. Guided by the spirit of "Introducing the Batak Script to a Future Generation that is High-Achieving, Cultured, and of Strong Character," the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, remains committed to nurturing a generation capable of integrating cultural values with technological innovation to ensure the preservation of the Batak Script for the future.
