In her speech, the Dean welcomed the establishment of the USU Archives Center and History Lab. The Dean hopes that as a follow-up to this seminar, USU will have an Archives Center and History Lab which will be useful for the development of History Science in the future.

The archive center functions as a manager of historical archives, documenting artefacts, pictures, replicas, historic mosques, historic tombs, heroes of North Sumatra, sultanates in North Sumatra, the genealogy of sultanates and Malay ethnic, Karo ethnic, Mandailing ethnic and so on, as well as various archival sources from the Netherlands and Islam to support research, publication and education for the public regarding history both factually and digitally in North Sumatra.

Likewise, the history lab is very important to provide infrastructure and facilities to develop the Tridharma of Higher Education, especially as a quality and professional learning medium for researchers, lecturers and students with a systematic and measurable scientific methodology for academics at the local, national and global levels, towards the internationalization of USU through historical science.

History has an important meaning as a basic reference in dealing with present life and predicting life in the future. The importance of history is shown by its functions, especially informative, educative, inspirational and pragmatic functions. A. Sobana Hardjasaputra wrote that in the functions of history lies the importance of history for nation building, because nation building means building attitudes, character and spirit in facing life, both for personal life and for social and state life. Nation building includes various "pillars" (aspects) involving various phenomena. In this case, understanding history will be the basis for thinking/policy, because the emergence of a phenomenon or event is not sudden, but there must be a background. To know the background of a phenomenon or event, you have to study its history. Therefore, history lessons should be a general compulsory subject at every level of education, from elementary school to university. Meanwhile, informal history teaching also needs to be carried out through certain activities involving the younger generation, because the younger generation is the hope of the nation and the nation's successors.
