FIB USU PR - On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, University of North Sumatra (FIB USU), held a Colloquium on Indonesian Literature and Culture in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia. This activity serves as a strategic academic platform to strengthen international cooperation and broaden scholarly discourse on Indonesian literature and culture from a global perspective.
The colloquium was attended by lecturers, researchers, students, and academics from FIB USU and Deakin University. The presence of speakers from both institutions provided a space for constructive scholarly dialogue regarding the development of Indonesian literary and cultural studies, particularly in the context of cross-cultural and contemporary studies.
In his remarks, the Dean of FIB USU stated that this colloquium is part of FIB USU's commitment to promoting the internationalization of study programs and improving academic quality through collaboration with foreign universities. The collaboration with Deakin University is considered a strategic step to expand research networks and knowledge exchange between Indonesian and Australian academics.
The Indonesian Literature and Culture Colloquium addressed various topics, including the dynamics of modern and contemporary Indonesian literature, cultural studies from a global perspective, the representation of local identity and culture in literary works, and the challenges and opportunities for teaching Indonesian literature internationally. The speakers presented research findings and academic ideas, which were then discussed interactively with the participants.
The discussion demonstrated the high enthusiasm of the participants, particularly students of the Indonesian Literature Study Program, who had the opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with international academics. Through this activity, students are expected to broaden their academic horizons, improve their critical thinking skills, and understand the position of Indonesian literature and culture in the context of global studies.
The Colloquium also serves as an important platform for strengthening institutional ties between the Faculty of Humanities and Culture (FIB) at USU and Deakin University, while also opening opportunities for further collaboration in the areas of joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and the organization of other international academic activities.
With this Indonesian Literature and Culture Colloquium, the Indonesian Literature Study Program at USU affirms its role as a center for developing literary and cultural studies that adapts to global dynamics, without abandoning its cultural roots and national identity. This activity is expected to provide a real contribution to the development of science and strengthen the position of FIB USU at the national and international levels.
