

FIB USU PR - On Monday, July 21, 2025, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), welcomed students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at the FIB USU Meeting Room. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. (Dean of FIB USU), Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D. (Vice Dean I), Dra. Mardiah Mawar Kembaren, M.A., Ph.D. (Lecturer of Malay Literature, FIB/PIC of Field Practice Program), FIB lecturers serving as field supervisors, Expert Staff, the Head of Academic Subdivision, Public Relations, and student representatives of FIB USU.
A total of 10 UKM students will join the International Industrial Training Program at five FIB partner institutions over two months. These partner institutions include the Medan City Tourism Office, the North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Service, the Cultural Heritage Preservation Center Region II of North Sumatra, DAAI TV, and the Universitas Sumatera Utara Library.
According to Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. (Dean of FIB USU), this program has become a regular agenda item over the past two years. The ultimate goal is to expand opportunities for collaboration and networking. Based on previous experience, UKM has expressed that the presence of FIB USU students greatly supports the dissemination of information at their placement sites.
“Through cooperation with these five institutions in Medan, we hope this collaboration can encourage the development of strategic programs for more effective information dissemination. Furthermore, this activity is expected to bring positive contributions to the growth of our partner institutions in the future,” she stated. “This program is part of our academic internationalization efforts, particularly through the Inbound Mobility scheme that encourages the exchange of knowledge and culture across nations,” the Dean stated.
