The American Embassy in Consulates here in Indonesia supports several programs promoting education in the United States. The cooperation with the USU, Consulate has provided access micro-scholarships for underprivileged students to study for two years to improve their English skills, which may lead to better economic and educational opportunities. Participants also gain the ability to compete for and participate in future exchanges and studies in the United States.

FIB USU PR - On Friday December 1, 2023 the Ikatan Mahasiswa Sastra Inggris (IMSI) which is Student’s Organization of English Literature Study Program held a celebrating event of the IMSI’s 42nd Anniversary. This event invited the US consulate Kristy Mordhorst and the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatra Utara, Mrs. Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. This activity took place at FIB USU’s Veranda.

 

The Head of the English Literature Study Program, Mr. Mahmud Arief Albar, S.S., M.A, congratulated IMSI for being 42 years old and being able to make its 42nd birthday this year an inspiration as well as having creative and creative ideas in this celebration. Mr Mahmud also said “Our English Literature Study Program is the first English Literature Study Program in Sumatra, with Excellent Accreditation, that is something to be very proud of. And we are now in the process of working to obtain International Accreditation. We are working on Joint Degree or Double Degree, and there are so many programs that we have, they are planning to carry out the finish in the next few years. All those programs are for you to give you a brighter future”.

 

Dean of FIB USU Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. congratulates the Head and Secretary of English Literature Study Program, US Consulate, Committee Chair and the entire IMSI FIB USU committee for making IMSI's Anniversary very lively. Dean of FIB said “The IMSI’s Anniversary has not only connected the past and present, but also giving students opportunities to broaden their horizons and also acquire a deeper understanding of various management options”. Dean of FIB also wishes the senior students continued success in nurturing the coming generations of our students to help them realize their potential and also to become responsible and contributing members of the community.

The event continues with Poetry Reading by Drs. Siamir Marulafau M.Hum., English Literature Student Performance, Chinese Creation Dance, Modern Dance, Catwalk Best Outfit, Mobile Legends Competition, Alumni talks, and Announcement of the Awards.
