The event was organized to strengthen USU's contribution to addressing various regional development challenges. The FGD brought together representatives of regency and municipal governments across North Sumatra and USU academics to identify regional issues and assess development needs requiring academic expertise and collaboration with higher education institutions.

The event also invited all deans of faculties within USU, along with leaders of relevant institutions and directorates. On this occasion, FIB USU was represented by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization (P2KI), Andi Pratama Lubis, S.S., M.Hum., who attended on behalf of the Dean of FIB USU.

Through this discussion forum, USU sought to strengthen collaborative relationships between local governments and higher education institutions in identifying regional challenges and development priorities. The involvement of academics from various disciplines is expected to provide valuable insights and academic expertise in supporting regional development across North Sumatra.

FIB USU's participation in this event also reflects the faculty's commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration and enhancing the contribution of higher education to society. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthened partnerships between higher education institutions and local governments. It is also relevant to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, particularly in supporting inclusive and sustainable regional development, as well as SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, through enhanced coordination and responsive development governance that addresses regional needs.

Through this FGD, USU is expected to further strengthen its role as a higher education institution actively contributing to regional development through knowledge advancement, academic collaboration, and strategic partnerships with regency and municipal governments across North Sumatra.
