The seminar event was officially opened by the Third Vice Rector of USU, Mrs. Prof. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Sc., M.Sc., Apt. She expressed her hope that this activity could become a productive forum to enrich understanding of the history of bilateral relations between Poland and Indonesia, especially the city of Medan and North Sumatra.
FIB USU PR - On Thursday, April 25 2024, the Historical Science Study Program, Faculty of History (FIB), Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) held a Hybrid Seminar with a theme: "Relations between Poland and Medan-North Sumatra in the 19th and Early 20th Centuries ". This seminar is a collaboration between FIB USU's Historical Science Study Program and the Polish Embassy in Indonesia.
This seminar was held in the Prof. Suhadji Hadibroto Hall, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) USU. The speakers at this seminar came from Poland and Indonesia. Resource persons from Poland are the author of the book Polish for Beginners, Piotr Smieszek, as well as an expert from Jagiellonian University Krakow Poland, Dr. Lukasz Stach. The resource person from Indonesia was Prof. Dr. Budi Agustono who is a FIB USU lecturer.
According to the report of the committee chairman Dra. Junita Setiana Ginting, M.Si, the activity plan began with a meeting with the Deputy of the Polish Embassy on December 14 2023 which resulted in an agreement to carry out this seminar.

In this event, FIB USU Dean Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. also gives the word Various. The Dean conveyed the importance of preserving and understanding history to strengthen relations between countries. Likewise, Polish Ambassador H.E. Beata Stoczinska was also present and gave a variety. He expressed his appreciation for the collaboration in this activity.
The event then continued with the presentation of the three speakers with moderator Lestari Dara Cinta Utami, S.S., M.A. This activity aims to discuss the history of relations between Poland and the cities of Medan and North Sumatra in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This activity was attended by students, lecturers, the Medan City Government and the general public who were interested in the history of bilateral relations between Poland and Indonesia, especially the City of Medan and North Sumatra.
