FIB USU PR - On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Mandarin Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), organized a workshop entitled “Technological Innovation for Effective and Interactive Mandarin Language Teaching.” The event took place at the FIB USU Meeting Room and was attended by the academic community of the Mandarin Study Program.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., the Head of the Study Program, lecturers, and Mandarin Study Program students.

The workshop featured distinguished speakers, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yi Ying, M.Lit., M.Pd., and Jefri Junifer Pangaribuan, S.Kom., M.TI., who shared their insights and experiences on the use of technology to support more effective and interactive Mandarin language teaching.

In her remarks, the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., stated that this workshop is a strategic step in addressing the challenges of education in the digital era, which demands innovation, creativity, and adaptability to technological advancements.

In the context of language learning, particularly Mandarin, the use of technology is no longer optional but essential. Technology serves as a bridge to create more engaging, interactive, and effective learning processes, thereby enhancing students’ interest and understanding.

She further expressed her hope that through this workshop, lecturers and students would gain new insights, practical skills, and inspiration to develop innovative teaching methods. The activity is also expected to strengthen the quality of education within FIB USU, especially in Mandarin language teaching.

She encouraged all participants to actively engage in the workshop, make the most of each session by participating in discussions, asking questions, and learning as much as possible from the expert speakers.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to various technological innovations applicable in teaching, ranging from digital media and online learning platforms to interactive applications that enhance student engagement in the learning process.

In addition, the workshop included discussion and hands-on practice sessions, allowing participants to directly explore the implementation of technology in Mandarin language teaching. This aimed to enhance lecturers’ pedagogical competence and enrich teaching methods that are more adaptive to technological developments.

Through this activity, the Mandarin Study Program of FIB USU hopes to foster innovation in learning systems that are not only effective but also capable of increasing students’ interest and motivation in the digital era.

The event ran smoothly and was met with great enthusiasm, as reflected in the active participation of attendees during the discussion and question-and-answer sessions with the speakers.
