FIB USU PR - On Monday, April 13, 2026, the History Study Program Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), organized the 1st National History Seminar under the theme “Diplomacy, Slavery, and Plantation Systems: A Comparative Study between America and East Sumatra.” The event was conducted online via Zoom and attended by academics and participants from various backgrounds.

The seminar was attended by the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., as well as Prof. Dr. Agus Mulyana, M.Hum., Director of History and Museums at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairman of the Indonesian Historians Association. Also present were the Head and Secretary of the Study Program, lecturers, and seminar participants.

The seminar featured distinguished speakers in the field, namely Warijio, M.A., Ph.D., Prof. Drs. Suprayitno, M.Hum., Ph.D., Dr. Drs. Edi Sumarno, M.Hum., and M. Azis Rizky Lubis, S.S., M.A. The session was moderated by Hendri Delimunthe, S.Pd., M.A., who guided the discussion in an interactive manner.

During the seminar, comprehensive discussions were presented on the dynamics of diplomacy, the practice of slavery, and plantation systems through a comparative approach between the American region and East Sumatra. The discussions provided in-depth insights into the interconnections between global and local history, as well as how past events have shaped present-day social, economic, and political conditions.

Through this event, FIB USU aims to enrich historical studies, particularly in understanding cross-regional relations and their impact on societal development. The seminar also served as an academic platform for students and researchers to broaden their perspectives and strengthen the tradition of scholarly discussion within the Faculty of Cultural Sciences.

The event ran smoothly and was marked by high enthusiasm from participants, as reflected in the interactive question-and-answer session and constructive discussions between the speakers and participants.
