FIB USU PR - On Monday, April 20, 2026, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), in collaboration with Satupena North Sumatra, organized an event titled “Poetry Reading Parade by Female Professors and Doctors of North Sumatra” in commemoration of Kartini Day, observed on April 21. The event took place in the Meeting Room of FIB USU and proceeded smoothly, solemnly, and full of inspiration.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., Dean of FIB USU, emphasized the important role of women in academia and culture. She stated that Kartini’s spirit must continue to be upheld through meaningful contributions and creative works.

“Through this event, we do not merely remember the figure of R.A. Kartini, but also continue her spirit of struggle. Women today must have the courage to speak up, to create, and to become agents of change in various fields, including literacy and culture,” she remarked.

The event featured poetry readings by female professors and doctors from various universities across North Sumatra, including Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED), Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UINSU), Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara (UISU), Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Universitas Harapan Medan (UNHAR), Universitas Amir Hamzah (UNAMHA), Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah, STIM SUKMA, as well as representatives from the North Sumatra Language Center.

The poems presented highlighted themes of women’s struggle, emancipation, and reflections on the role of women in contemporary social and cultural life.

In the afternoon session, the event continued with poetry readings by representatives of Heads of Study Programs, lecturers, and administrative staff of FIB USU.

In addition to the poetry readings, another key agenda of the event was the signing of a cooperation agreement between FIB USU and the Satupena North Sumatra board. This collaboration aims to strengthen the literacy and cultural ecosystem within the academic environment, serving as a concrete implementation of the partnership between the two institutions.

As a form of appreciation, FIB USU also presented certificates and books to the participating female professors and doctors from various universities in North Sumatra for their contributions and support in this literary event.

Through the momentum of Kartini Day, FIB USU reaffirmed its role as an inclusive center of culture and humanities. It is hoped that Kartini’s spirit will continue to inspire Indonesian women to be courageous in creating, independent in thought, and active contributors to the nation’s progress.
