Bahasa Mandarin - Students from the Mandarin Language Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), participated in the 2026 Spring Festival Reception (2026年春节招待会) organized by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Medan on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Held in celebration of the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year, the event served as an opportunity to foster friendship, cultural exchange, and interaction between Indonesian and Chinese communities. The participation of FIB USU students also represented an academic contribution to promoting Chinese arts and culture to a wider audience.
One of the highlights of the event was a Chinese cultural performance presented by students from the Mandarin Language Study Program at FIB USU. Dressed in elegant traditional Chinese attire dominated by red and gold, the students delivered an energetic and engaging performance.
The performance was not merely part of the event’s entertainment program but also reflected the application of cultural knowledge gained by students throughout their studies at FIB USU. Through performing arts, students had the opportunity to develop their cross-cultural understanding while introducing elements of traditional Chinese arts and culture to the invited guests.
The students’ performance received warm appreciation from diplomatic representatives, community leaders, and other guests in attendance. Their participation demonstrated the important role of young people in fostering communication, mutual understanding, and meaningful intercultural relations.
The 2026 Spring Festival Reception also provided a platform for interaction among diplomatic representatives, educational institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders. The participation of FIB USU students contributed to expanding networks and supporting the development of future educational and cultural collaborations.
The event concluded with a group photo involving the Consul, distinguished guests, and performers. The traditional Chinese New Year greeting gesture, Gongxi, further conveyed messages of friendship, peace, and shared hopes for success in the Year of the Horse.
Through participation in this international-scale cultural event, students of the Mandarin Language Study Program at FIB USU are expected to further develop their language proficiency, cultural awareness, and intercultural communication skills. The activity also served as a meaningful platform for strengthening educational and cultural relations between Indonesia and China while creating opportunities for broader collaboration in the future.
