FIB USU PR - On Thursday, March 7, 2024, the Chinese Language Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of the Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) held the third Chinese Bridge (汉语桥) competition at the Universitas Sumatra Utara level. The USU Chinese Bridge competition was held at the FIB USU's T. Amin Ridwan Hall. Chinese Bridge (汉语桥) is a Chinese speech competition as well as a talent display about Chinese culture performed individually for elementary, middle school, high school and university students. Chinese Bridge (汉语桥) is not only an annual competition for school or university level but also an annual competition for provincial, national and international levels.
Chinese Bridge (汉语桥) has been held since 2002 and carries three themes, namely "快乐中文" (Chinese Joy and Fun) for the elementary school category, "追梦中文，不负韶华" (Fly High with Chinese) for the middle school category and High School, as well as “天下一家” (One World, One Family) for the college category. The Chinese Bridge competition is held to test Mandarin language skills and knowledge of Chinese culture. This activity is also very beneficial for students at USU, especially for students of the USU Chinese Language Study Program, because it will be a means to practice the Chinese language skills they already have and gain valuable experience as well as a competent provision for Chinese language skills.
This event was also attended and officially opened by FIB USU's Vice Dean III Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D. he told about the development of the Chinese Language Study Program. USU's Chinese Bridge was held for the first time by the Chinese Language Study Program in 2019 until now. "This competition has been successfully held every year and hopes to further develop in the following years at the Universitas Sumatra Utara level" said Vice Dean III.
Vice Dean III also appealed to all teaching staff and students, especially those in the Chinese Language Study Program to work together to develop USU's next Chinese bridge competition. He also warmly welcomed the jury for this year's USU Chinese Bridge competition, namely Mrs. Julina B.A., M.TCSOL as STTC translator, Mrs. Ngartini Huang, S.E. as the founder of Jade Music Academy, Mr. Marxcel, S.S. as the Indonesian representative participant in the Chinese Bridge International Level and won 3rd place at the international level in 2020, Mr. Kevin Ricardo, S.I.Kom. as a famous singer in Medan and public speaker.
Mrs. Niza Ayuningtias S.S., MTCSOL as the Head of the Chinese Language Study Program is also very enthusiastic about the USU Chinese Bridge competition. She also explained that this competition was held with the aim of encouraging and providing opportunities for students at the Universitas Sumatra Utara, especially students of the Chinese Language Study Program, to learn and deepen the language. She also supported the participants to carry out each competition with enthusiasm. USU's Chinese Bridge in 2024 was attended by 16 participants, most of whom were students from the USU Chinese Language Study Program. All participants are required to present a Chinese speech with the theme 天下一家, and art with a Chinese cultural theme. For USU's Chinese Bridge art performance in 2024, there were participants who performed dance, 快板儿, singing, and singing while signing language. In this year's USU Chinese Bridge competition, there were two categories of winners, the first was the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place categories, and the second was the winner category for The Most Favorite with 1 participant. Therefore, there will be 4 students who will take home trophies, certificates and cash with a total of Rp. 2,000,000.
As a result of the performances of the 16 USU Chinese Bridge participants in 2024, the jury decided the winners of the 2024 USU Chinese Bridge competition:
- Cherilynne (First Place of Chinese Bridge USU 2024)
- Nassya Nur Putri (Second Place of Chinese Bridge USU 2024)
- Shinta Wijaya (Third Place of Chinese Bridge USU 2024)
- Imam Farras Mahib (The Most Favorite of Chinese Bridge USU 2024)
The four winners of USU's Chinese Bridge in 2024 will later be sent as representatives of the Universitas Sumatra Utara to take part in the North Sumatra Chinese Bridge competition.
