FIB USU PR - On Sunday, February 18, 2024, the Malay Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) held an Alumni Gathering activity which was held at Desadesa Resto Medan. This event was attended by the Dean of FIB USU Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., Head of the Malay Literature Study Program Dra. Mardiah Mawar Kembaren, M.A., Ph.D., Chair of the USU FIB Malay Literature Alumni Association, Alumni, all Malay Literature lecturers, and Malay Literature students.
Head of the USU FIB Malay Literature Study Program Mrs. Dra. Mardiah Mawar Kembaren, M.A., Ph.D. expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended, especially the Dean of FIB USU and also the alumni and students of Malay Literature. This alumni gathering activity is a way to build friendship and support USU in the IKU 1-8 filling program. In this activity, the high participation of alumni, which also consisted of several representatives of state agencies, was a sign of enthusiasm and was able to provide support and inspiration for the students who attended. Apart from that, the success of alumni can provide deep insight, provide motivation, and be able to provide direction for students.
Through this Alumni Gathering, the Dean of FIB USU, Mrs. Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. said that this activity is one of the supports in the IKU 1-8 programs. Chairman of the Malay Literature Alumni Association (IKA SASMEL) Afrizal, S.S. expressed his thanks to everyone who attended the Malay Literature Study Program alumni gathering event. The number of alumni who attended was 20 people, there were several alumni who were unable to attend due to busy schedules or other activities. The chairman of IKA SASMEL said "I, as the new chairman of IKA SASMEL, hope that more high school students will be interested in the Malay Literature major. So that we can make the Malay Literature Study Program a major that is in great demand." said Afrizal.
In this activity, alumni who were representatives of several state agencies also collected data through the Employer Reputation Tracker to provide an overview of the industry's views. Apart from that, in the discussion session, the alumni also gave their responses to several concerns of students and also Malay Literature alumni who had just graduated regarding the field in the world of work. It is also hoped that this discussion session can establish cooperation and a strong network for exchanging information and job opportunities for graduates of the Malay Literature Study Program. Through this activity, the management of the Malay Literature Alumni Association for 2023-2027 was also held. Through the formation of this committee, it is hoped that it can have a big impact on Malay Literature alumni who have just graduated or students in providing information about the world of work.
The next step that the Malay Literature Study Program will take is to develop a collaboration program between the Study Program and government agencies through alumni who are already part of these agencies. This is done to develop employment networks for alumni. Apart from that, it is also hoped that this collaboration will be a step to monitor and evaluate any changes in the industry's view of graduates. It is hoped that this implementation can carry out regular evaluations to monitor and receive feedback from alumni, students, and agencies in order to improve the quality of education in the Malay Literature Study Program, the readiness of graduates, and can also strengthen relationships that will be mutually beneficial between the study program, alumni, as well as related agencies.
