FIB USU PR - The Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) visited the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB USU) on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as part of the Senate’s mandate to oversee academic quality and monitor the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan (Renstra) across USU’s academic environment. The visit was held at FIB USU from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The visit was led by Chair of the USU Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. Drs. Budi Agustono, M.S., together with members of the Academic Senate team. The delegation was welcomed by Dean of FIB USU, Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., along with the faculty leadership.
Also in attendance were Dr. Zulfan, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni; Ely Hayati Nasution, S.S., M.Si., CIT, Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure; and Andi Pratama Lubis, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Partnerships, and Internationalization.
The meeting was also attended by managers within FIB USU, as well as Heads and Secretaries of the Study Programs. The involvement of managerial personnel and study program leadership was an important component of the academic oversight and evaluation process, particularly in ensuring that policies and work programs at the study program level remain aligned with the University’s strategic direction.
The visit was part of a series of visits by the USU Academic Senate to six faculties: the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
During the visit, the Academic Senate reviewed various aspects related to academic quality and the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan. To support the review process, managers, Heads of Study Programs, and Secretaries of Study Programs were involved and asked to prepare relevant documents and information concerning academic management at both the faculty and study program levels.
Key areas of review included the University Strategic Plan, Research Master Plan, Community Service Master Plan, recognition of final projects other than undergraduate theses, Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curricula for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, international classes, and national and international accreditation.
The review also covered Fast Track programs, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), special classes for compulsory university courses, student affairs, partnerships and academic publications, as well as budget planning. These areas are integral to ensuring that educational delivery and academic governance remain consistent with the University’s development priorities.
For FIB USU, the Academic Senate’s visit served as an important opportunity to strengthen the faculty’s commitment to academic quality enhancement and institutional governance. The evaluation of various academic aspects also supports efforts to ensure that programs implemented at both the faculty and study program levels remain aligned with USU’s strategic direction.
The involvement of faculty leaders, managers, and Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs in the evaluation process further underscores the importance of synergy among academic management units in maintaining the quality of educational delivery. Through strengthened coordination, academic programs and policies can be evaluated more comprehensively and directed toward continuous quality improvement.
Through continued synergy between the Academic Senate and FIB USU leadership, together with all academic management units, academic quality assurance is expected to become an integral part of the University’s continuous improvement process. Such collaboration is also essential to ensuring that the development of education, research, community service, student affairs, partnerships, and internationalization is implemented in a focused, measurable, and sustainable manner, in line with USU’s vision and strategic direction.
