Japanese Language

Japanese Language

Japanese Language in the Japanese Literature undergraduate program is part of the deepening of knowledge related to Japanese language and culture. Students in this group focus on learning Japanese comprehensively, including aspects of grammar, vocabulary, kanji, and the hiragana and katakana writing systems. Studying Japanese also includes understanding the unique structure of the language that influences Japanese expression and thought. Sociolinguistic aspects are also a focus, exploring how language reflects values, social hierarchies, and cultural norms in Japanese society. In addition, students study Japanese culture through language. They understand the differences between formal and informal language, cultural expressions, and everyday language used in social and professional contexts. The ability to communicate correctly and politely in a variety of contexts is the main goal of this program. Not only do students master spoken and written language, but they also understand the historical and cultural context that shaped the Japanese language. They study the history of the development of the language and writing system, as well as the role of language in realizing Japanese national and cultural identity.

Japanese Society

Japanese Society in the Japanese Literature undergraduate program focuses on the study of the social structure, culture, and norms that govern Japanese society. Students understand and analyze how social institutions, community groups, values, and traditions influence daily life in Japan. They study the Japanese social system, hierarchy, social norms, and ethics that form the foundation of Japanese society. In addition, cultural aspects such as grammar, etiquette, customs, and cultural celebrations are also the focus of this discipline. The main goal of this major is to produce scholars who have a deep understanding of the institutions of Japanese society and are able to apply them in reading, analyzing, and appreciating Japanese literature. Learning Outcomes

The target learning outcomes are expected to equip every student of the Undergraduate Program in Japanese Literature to be able to communicate in Japanese, understand the culture, and be proficient in business.

1 Able to translate Japanese into Indonesian and vice versa, both orally and in writing, in accordance with correct Japanese language standards.
2 Able to communicate ideas or thoughts in Japanese in the form of group discussions and seminars.
3 Able to conduct studies in the fields of Japanese linguistics, literature, society, and culture based on various study approaches to each field objectively and scientifically.
4 Able to develop knowledge of Japanese linguistics based on the study of various linguistic fields with appropriate analytical methods.
5 Able to develop knowledge of Japanese literature based on the study of various types of literature (poetry, prose, and drama) with appropriate analytical methods.
