Linguistics

Linguistics

Linguistics in the Batak Literature study program helps to understand the Batak language in depth. Students study the Batak language in terms of phonology, which includes the sounds, and how the sounds form words and sentences in the language. Morphology is studied to understand the internal structure of words and the formation of words in Batak. The syntax allows students to analyze sentence structure and the way words are arranged to form meaningful meanings. In addition to the structural aspects of language, the group also delves into the sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic aspects of Batak language. The sociolinguistic aspect addresses the way Batak is used in society, the extent to which the language affects social identity, and how its use adapts to social change. Meanwhile, the psycholinguistic aspect addresses how humans understand, produce, and process Batak language in their minds. The main goal of this group is to deepen the understanding of the Batak language and explore its use in Batak literature. In addition, the group is also dedicated to promoting, preserving, and developing the Batak language and literature worldwide. This is done through research, publications, cultural activities, and education to ensure that the richness of Batak language and literature is appreciated, learned, and preserved for future generations.

Literature in the Batak Literature study program studies a variety of literary works such as prose, poetry, drama, and other types of literary texts that use the Batak language as a medium of expression. In-depth analysis of the structure and content of literary works becomes the main focus. Students understand how literary structures shape narratives, build characters, and create certain feelings in readers or audiences. The social and historical context in which literary works emerge is also studied to understand the background and inspiration behind these works. The group also traces the development of Batak literature over time, observing changes in literary style, themes, and writing techniques used. In addition, its relationship with world literature is also a focus of study to understand how Batak literature coexists and interacts with literary works from other cultures. The main goal of the group is to deepen the understanding of Batak literature and its contribution to global cultural and literary development. In addition, they aim to promote a better appreciation and understanding of the richness of Batak literature and culture.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Batak Literature Study Program have a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of Batak language, literature, and culture in the form of manuscripts and academic writings.

1 Able to comprehensively understand the basic concepts of Batak language, literature, and culture, as well as the phenomena related to linguistics, literature, and culture, with a national perspective.
2 Able to master the fundamental concepts of Batak manuscripts and present them in both academic and popular writings creatively and innovatively, making them a valuable source of knowledge and learning materials in the study program.
3 Able to carry out the task of promoting culture through the management of the Batak language, literature, and culture for tourism development based on noble values and local wisdom.
4 Able to create job opportunities through their knowledge and understanding of Batak language, literature, and culture, resulting in graduates who have an entrepreneurial mindset, think logically, and utilize information technology.
