Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D. (Vice Dean I), Deputy Committee Rahmadsyah Rangkuti, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., Expert Staff of FIB USU, Head of Study Program & Secretary of Study Program FIB, Head of Student Affairs Sub-Division, Education Staff, Public Relations and Students of FIB USU.
World Hindi Day has been celebrated since 1974 with the aim of bridging people across countries through language and culture. World Hindi Day is an annual commemoration that recognizes Hindi and also some 'bollywood' cultures globally so that its beauty and richness are recognized as world cultural heritage. This event is a collaboration between the Indian Consulate in Medan and the University of North Sumatra.
Mr. Ravi Shanker Goel, Consul General of Medan expressed his appreciation to USU for the cooperation that has been established. He also announced several cooperation plans, such as the possibility of opening a Hindi language course, establishing an "India Corner" at USU, and offering educational scholarships to India for USU students.
"Hindi is one of the most widely used languages in the world, with more than 600 million speakers. Hindi Day is not just about language, but also about understanding each other's culture," he said.
Mr. Ravi Shankar Goel also said that the Indian government is very supportive of educational and cultural initiatives involving USU, including the opportunity to present professors from India through the ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) Chair program and supporting other academic exchanges. "We are also in the process of appointing a professor from India who will share knowledge with the USU academic community," he said.
Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., (WR III) gave a welcoming speech highlighting the importance of multiculturalism and intercultural dialogue. In this case, language plays an important role in uniting people around the world.
"Let us use this occasion of World Hindi Day as a platform to foster cross-cultural friendships, celebrate diversity, and strengthen local different diversity, and strengthen global solidarity relationships," said Prof. Dr. Poppy.
Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. expressed his pride because FIB USU was chosen to host the World Hindi Day celebration.
The Dean of FIB also hopes that this event can be a starting point for more beneficial collaboration between the two countries and inspire students and participants to study Hindi and Indian culture more deeply. This activity is a great opportunity to develop international collaboration, especially in the fields of education and culture.
"This event not only highlights the importance of Hindi in the world, but also strengthens the friendship between Indonesia and India," said Prof. Thyrhaya.
A number of figures attended the event, including the Consul General of India in Medan, the President of IEAM, the Deputy Chair of Lecturers, the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, the Vice Chancellor, the Head of NRI Medan, and the Chair of the National Education Commission from the University of North Sumatra.
In addition, the Consul General also promoted the learning of regional languages, including Hindi. The initiative was welcomed by the University of North Sumatra.
