The Gata Script Festival at Bongal Site 2026 successfully provided a platform for education and cultural preservation through the Gata Script Workshop, held at the Bongal Site Gallery in Jago-Jago Village, Badiri District, Central Tapanuli Regency. Featuring Dr. Tomson Sibarani, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer in the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, the workshop invited participants to explore the traces of ancient scripts and gain a deeper understanding of the important role of the Bongal Site as one of the witnesses to the civilization of Sumatra’s western coastal region.

Through an interactive and inspiring learning environment, the festival brought the community closer to the rich cultural heritage of the Indonesian archipelago, which is deeply rooted in historical values. More than just a platform for sharing knowledge, the Gata Script Workshop encouraged younger generations to reconnect with their cultural roots, foster pride in their local identity, and take an active role in preserving and passing on cultural heritage to future generations.
From the Bongal Site, history is not merely remembered—it is brought back to life as a source of learning and inspiration for the future.
