HUMAS FIB USU – On Saturday, February 8, 2025, the Indonesian Literature Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Science, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a Book Review Event with Dee Lestari on Tanpa Rencana. The event occurred at the Multipurpose Hall of FIB USU and was attended by participants from various backgrounds, including lecturers, students, and literature enthusiasts.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Dardanila, M.Hum., Expert Staff to the Dean of FIB USU, who emphasized the importance of this activity in enriching literacy and fostering a spirit of creativity among students.
In her speech, the Head of the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Prof. Dr. Dwi Widayati, M.Hum., highlighted how Dee Lestari's works bridge literature with contemporary issues relevant to everyday life, as well as being an inspiration for students' thesis topics.
Prof. Dwi also expressed her gratitude to the faculty leaders for their moral and material support, which made this event possible.
During the book review session, Dee Lestari shared the creative process behind her works, such as Supernova, Filosofi Kopi, Aroma Karsa, and Tanpa Rencana. She explained how these ideas were born and developed into works many readers love.
"In writing, we must have a clear deadline and structure so that ideas can be completed properly and enjoyed in the form of a complete book," said Dee Lestari in a discussion moderated by Eka Dalanta.
In addition to discussing the creative process, Dee reviewed the writing challenges, including overcoming writer's block and maintaining consistency in producing works. The participants' enthusiasm was evident during the Q&A session, which was filled with questions about writing tips, character inspiration, and the messages conveyed in her works.
The event became even more lively with a book signing and photo session with the author, which the participants warmly welcomed. This moment provided a valuable opportunity for fans to interact directly with Dee Lestari and take home personal mementos from the event.
This book review session was part of the Indonesian Literature Study Program's efforts at the Faculty of Cultural Science of Universitas Sumatera Utara to promote appreciation for Indonesian literature and inspire the younger generation in the literary world. With the positive response from participants, the study program hopes to continue organizing similar events in the future, featuring great writers to share their knowledge and experiences.
