FIB USU PR - On Thursday, January 15, 2026, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of the University of North Sumatra (USU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and Implementation Arrangement (IA) with PT. Penerbitan Harian Waspada in the FIB Meeting Room.
The event was attended by Dr. H. Erucakra Mahameru (Director of Harian Waspada), Austin Tumengkol, Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Arsyadona Nasution (Head of Finance of Harian Waspada), Arianda Tanjung Ferdinan Sembiring (Journalist of Harian Waspada). Also in attendance were Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. (Dean of FIB USU), Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, MA, Ph.D. (Vice Dean I of FIB USU), Dra. Heristina Dewi, M.Pd (Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU), Mhd. Pujiono, SS., M.Hum., Ph.D. (Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU), Head of Administration, Head of Subdivisions, Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, and educational staff.

This activity is part of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU, to strengthen institutional collaboration with strategic partners, particularly in the areas of education, research, and community service, as well as human resource capacity development. The signing of the MoA and IA is expected to serve as the foundation for the implementation of sustainable and mutually beneficial collaborative programs.
Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. (Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU), in his remarks, stated that
The Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of North Sumatra, officially established a partnership with the WASPADA Daily through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an effort to strengthen the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which includes education and teaching, research, and community service.
This collaboration is seen as strategic in building synergy between academia and the media, particularly in strengthening literacy, critical thinking, and appreciation for cultural and humanitarian values. Through this collaboration, the Faculty of Humanities and Culture (FIB) of USU and Harian Waspada are committed to opening up opportunities for collaboration in various academic and social activities that have a direct impact on society.
The Dean of FIB USU stated that the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is not merely an institutional obligation but must be realized through concrete work and cross-sector collaboration.
"We view Harian Waspada not only as an information medium, but as an intellectual and cultural partner that can support the sustainable implementation of the Tri Dharma," he said.
This collaboration has also been realized through joint academic activities, one of which is the seminar "Three Generations Sowing Intellectual Ideas" organized by the History Study Program of FIB USU in collaboration with Harian Waspada on January 10, 2026. Going forward, these activities are expected to produce sustainable outcomes, such as the publication of seminar proceedings, so that academic ideas can reach a wider audience through credible media.
Through the signing of this MoU, FIB USU and Harian Waspada affirm their shared commitment to building sustainable synergy in the development of science, culture, and social responsibility to the community.
