FIB USU PR - On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), held the 2026 New Student Campus Life Orientation Program (Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru/PKKMB) from August 12–14, 2026. Guided by a commitment to developing students who are excellent, resilient, adaptable, and globally competitive, the program provided new students with an opportunity to become familiar with the academic environment, student culture, and various opportunities for personal and professional development at FIB USU.

The program began on Wednesday, August 12, with the opening ceremony of the USU 2026 PKKMB, followed by the formal handover of new students from the university level to the respective faculties. After being mobilized to their faculty, FIB USU’s new students participated in a welcoming program designed to introduce them to the faculty’s academic environment and student life.

During the faculty welcoming session, new students were introduced to FIB USU’s vision and mission, faculty leadership, student achievements, contributions to the Tridharma of Higher Education, as well as innovations developed by faculty members and students. The introduction served as an important first step in helping students understand FIB USU’s academic identity while exploring the opportunities available to them throughout their studies.

The Chair of the FIB USU 2026 PKKMB Committee, M. Azis Rizky Lubis, S.S., M.A., delivered the activity report. This was followed by remarks from the Dean of FIB USU, Muhammad Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., who also introduced the faculty’s vision and mission to the new students.

Beyond the faculty orientation, the first day featured a series of sessions designed to strengthen students’ character and broaden their perspectives.

The session on National Character Development, Global Leadership, and National Defense Awareness in Civic and National Life, along with Strengthening National Identity, provided students with essential perspectives on their role as young people and members of society.

Students also attended a session entitled “Transforming Indonesia’s Higher Education System in the 21st Century: Strengthening Academic Excellence, Innovation, and Globally Competitive Character.” The session offered new students insights into the changing landscape of higher education and highlighted the importance of adaptability, innovation, and competency development in responding to global challenges.

One of the sessions that received particular attention was “Impactful Campus and the SDGs.” The session introduced the importance of contributions by members of the academic community to sustainable development. Students were encouraged not only to pursue academic excellence but also to create meaningful benefits for society and the environment through knowledge, creativity, and student activities.

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, FIB USU’s new students continued with a series of sessions aimed at broadening their understanding of academic and student life.

The session on Higher Education Transformation in the Digital Era, the Industrial Revolution, and Society 5.0 provided important perspectives on navigating rapid technological developments. Digital literacy and innovation have become integral components of higher education, including in the fields of cultural studies and the humanities.

Students were also introduced to the Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM), PRUSPRESMA, library services, disaster preparedness, the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS), the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) program, and the University Professors Council (Dewan Guru Besar).

These sessions provided new students with an understanding of the facilities, programs, rights and responsibilities, and learning environment available at FIB USU. Disaster preparedness was also emphasized as part of efforts to develop students’ awareness and readiness in emergency situations.

Meanwhile, the introduction to the PPKS Task Force played an important role in raising awareness about the importance of creating a campus environment that is safe, inclusive, supportive, and free from sexual violence.

The second day became even more vibrant with performances by various Student Associations (Himpunan Mahasiswa Jurusan/HMJ) within FIB USU. The performances showcased the diversity of academic disciplines and student creativity, representing Japanese Literature, Library and Information Science, English Literature, Chinese Language, Arabic Literature, History, Indonesian Literature, Batak Literature, Malay Literature, and Ethnomusicology.

On the third day, Friday, August 14, 2026, the FIB USU 2026 PKKMB took on a more interactive atmosphere. New students participated in group exercise sessions and games designed to foster friendship, strengthen interpersonal connections, and build a sense of community among students.


One of the most inspiring sessions featured storytelling by accomplished students. Through the experiences of students who had achieved various accomplishments, new students gained insights into the opportunities available for personal and academic development during their studies at FIB USU.


The program continued with a presentation by the Student Executive Board (BEM), followed by introductions to the study programs and HMJs. These sessions gave new students an opportunity to learn more about the organizations and academic communities that can serve as platforms for developing their interests, talents, leadership skills, and organizational capabilities.


In the following session, new students from each study program showcased their creativity. The program concluded with a group photo session and a freestyle stage, providing a space for self-expression while strengthening the sense of belonging as members of the FIB USU community.


The implementation of the FIB USU 2026 PKKMB is closely aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The principles of sustainable development were reflected in academic orientation, character development, creativity, awareness of the campus environment, and efforts to strengthen a safe and inclusive educational ecosystem.


More than simply an introduction to campus life, the FIB USU 2026 PKKMB served as an important starting point for new students to understand the academic values and cultural environment they will encounter throughout their education at FIB USU.
Through character development, national awareness, digital literacy, introductions to study programs and student organizations, and an understanding of the SDGs, new students are expected to grow into academic individuals who are excellent, ethical, creative, adaptable, and capable of making a positive contribution to society.


The three-day FIB USU 2026 PKKMB thus marked the beginning of a new journey for students to discover, grow, create, and contribute as members of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara community.
