The activity, which was held online via Zoom Meeting, took place from 09:30 to 13:30 WIB. The public lecture was open to students, lecturers, and the general public as part of efforts to broaden insights into library development and information management amid societal diversity and digital transformation.
The activity began with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D. The event was then moderated by Dr. Laila Hadri Nasution, S.Sos., M.P., who also serves as a lecturer in the Library and Information Science Program.
Dr. Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, S.Sos., M.Si., a lecturer in the Library and Information Science Program at Universitas Padjadjaran, served as the speaker. Meanwhile, the Head of the Library and Information Science Program, Drs. Dirmansyah, M.A., also delivered remarks during the activity.
With the theme of multicultural libraries in the digital era, the public lecture provided a forum to discuss the importance of libraries in providing inclusive and diverse access to information and meeting the needs of communities from various cultural backgrounds. The development of digital technology also encourages libraries to continuously adapt, not only in providing collections and services but also in building an information ecosystem capable of accommodating the diversity of its users.
The concept of multicultural libraries is becoming increasingly relevant in a society characterized by diversity in language, culture, identity, and information needs. In this context, libraries have a strategic role as spaces for learning and knowledge exchange, as well as providers of information that can be accessed fairly by all segments of society.
Through this activity, the Library and Information Science Program, FIB USU, is expected to encourage students, academics, and the public to understand the challenges and opportunities faced by libraries in providing information services that are adaptive to technological developments and the needs of multicultural communities.
This public lecture also forms part of the commitment of the Library and Information Science Program, FIB USU, to strengthening information literacy, encouraging innovation in library services, and developing an inclusive information ecosystem in the digital era.
