FIB USU Master’s Program in Art Creation and Studies Hosts Public Lecture: "From Festival to Archive"
MEDAN – The Master’s Program in Art Creation and Studies at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), held an online public lecture titled "From Festival to Archive: Preserving Memory, Sustaining Culture" on Thursday (August 20, 2026) via the Zoom Meeting platform.
The event was organised to welcome new students for the 2026/2027 academic year and to foster an environment for scholarly academic discussion. Its objective was to provide new insights into the importance of managing art and cultural archives, as well as the role of festival sustainability in preserving local and national culture.

The public lecture opened with remarks from the Dean of FIB USU—represented by the Vice Dean for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Zulfan, S.S., M.Hum—and the Head of the Master’s Program in Art Creation and Studies, Dr. Vanesia Amelia Sebayang, S.Sn., M.Sn. On this occasion, faculty and program leadership emphasised the importance of academic synergy in preserving the nation's collective memory through structured art documentation.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Mikke Susanto, M.A., Head of the Master’s Program in Art Management at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. In his presentation, Dr Mikke discussed in depth how art events—such as festivals—do not simply end when they conclude; instead, they can be transformed into sustainable archives that continue to invigorate community cultural practices.
The discussion, which drew enthusiastic participation from the academic community and art practitioners, was moderated by Novia Situmeang, a Master’s student in the Art Creation and Studies program at FIB USU. Through this initiative, the Master’s Program in Art Studies at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU, continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting quality education and strengthening partnerships—aligned with fostering the development of arts and cultural scholarship in Indonesia.
