FIB USU PR - The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara, held the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) 2025, which was officially opened by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., at the USU Mini Stadium on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, with great enthusiasm from thousands of participants.
The PKKMB activities will occur from Wednesday, August 13, 2025, until Friday, August 15, 2025. This event marks the first official moment for new students to begin their academic journey at USU. This year's theme is Unlock Your Potential, Create Real Change.
From as early as 5:00 a.m. WIB, the USU Mini Stadium area was already crowded with new students preparing to undergo the registration process. The committee, assisted by the USU Student Executive Board (BEM), organized the registration orderly and distributed meals to participants. After completing the registration process, new students were directed to form neat and orderly lines according to their respective faculties before the event officially began.
Supporting facilities were also well prepared around the USU Mini Stadium area. Two medical posts were set up on the south and north sides of the main stage to anticipate health needs during the activities.
In the pre-PKKMB session, Bank Indonesia delivered a socialization program on digital transactions to new students from various faculties. The session was presented interactively through quizzes with prizes related to digital transactions, particularly introducing the QRIS payment system, which enables the public to carry out transactions quickly, safely, and efficiently. In addition, the USU Circularity Center also conducted a campaign on waste management.
PKKMB USU 2025 is expected to introduce new students to campus life and serve as a momentum to foster togetherness, organizational spirit, and a sense of belonging to the alma mater.
After the main event at the USU Mini Stadium, new students proceeded to their respective faculties, accompanied by faculty leaders and committees. The PKKMB activities at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) USU 2025 were officially opened by the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., at the Pancasila Building, USU, with a combination of material sessions and performances by new students as well as student associations (HMJ). The event, which carried the spirit of “Impactful Campus,” was attended by all new students of FIB USU.
The PKKMB FIB USU 2025 activities involved lecturers, education staff, and students. Throughout the event, various speakers presented nine materials. On the first day, Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the speakers included:
- USU FIB History lecturer Kiki Maulana Affandi, S.S., M.A., with the material National Character Building, Global Leadership, and National Defense Awareness in National Life, and Strengthening the Nation’s Identity.
- USU FIB Ethnomusicology lecturer Dr. Vanesia Amelia Sebayang, S.Sn., M.Sn. with the material Strengthening the Character of Excellent Students Oriented Towards Global Competitiveness.
- USU FIB Mandarin lecturer Vivi Adryani Nasution, S.S., MTCSOL, with the material Transformation of Higher Education in the Digital Era, Industrial Revolution, and Society 5.0: Strengthening Literacy and Academic Innovation.
On the second day, Thursday, August 14, 2025, the speakers included:
- USU FIB English Literature lecturer Ely Hayati Nasution, S.S., M.Si., with the material Transformation of the Indonesian Higher Education System in the 21st Century: Strengthening Academics, Innovation, and Global Competitiveness.
- USU FIB Linguistics Doctoral Program lecturer Prof. Dr. Robert Sibarani, M.S., with the material Strengthening Integrity and Academic Ethics in the Digital Era.
- USU FIB Linguistics Master’s Program lecturer Prof. Dr. Khairina Nasution, M.S., with the material Transformation of Universitas Sumatera Utara as an Innovation Center Based on Local Wisdom to Enhance Global Competitiveness, Promote Future Entrepreneurship, and Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- USU FIB Indonesian Literature lecturer Bambang Riyanto, S.S., M.Si., with the material Students as Agents of Change: Building a Green Campus for a Sustainable Future (Introduction to ULT System, Library, and PPKS).
- USU FIB Indonesian Literature lecturer Emma Marsella, S.S., M.Si., with PKM material.
- USU FIB History lecturer M. Azis Rizky Lubis, S.S., M.A., with Puspresma material.
On Friday, August 15, 2025, the third day, the Academic Subdivision Head Kasnawati, S.E., and the Student Affairs and Alumni Subdivision Head Edy Siswanto, S.S., M.Hum., presented materials on Academic and Student Affairs Services at FIB USU, as well as P2KMK and Human Resources. After the presentations, the event continued with an introduction of alums by the Chairperson of the FIB USU Alumni Association (IKA), Apriadi Gunawan, S.S.
The PKKMB FIB USU 2025 activities also included a video-making competition by new students of FIB USU, which was uploaded on social media. The winners of the competition were announced on the third day. New students from each study program also showcased their talents and competed in the best chant competition. The PKKMB FIB USU 2025 was officially closed by the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., and Vice Dean I, Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D.
