FIB USU PR - on Thursday October 8, 2026 The Indonesian Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), organized a guest lecture to enrich students’ academic knowledge and broaden their perspectives on literary studies. The event, held online via Zoom Meeting, carried the theme “Literary Theory: Studies of Masculinity, Children's and Young Adult Literature, and Critical Theory in Literary Research.”
The guest lecture featured Prof. Nur Wulan, Dra., M.A., Ph.D., a professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, as the speaker. The event was designed to provide students with an opportunity to explore developments in literary theory and understand how theoretical approaches can be applied to the analysis of literary works.
The discussion focused on three main areas: masculinity studies, children's and young adult literature, and critical theory in literary research. These topics offered students opportunities to broaden their understanding of the various perspectives used to interpret literary texts, examine representations of gender and identity, explore literary works intended for younger readers, and develop critical approaches to academic research.
Through this guest lecture, students were expected to strengthen their analytical and critical-thinking skills, deepen their understanding of literary theory, and develop their ability to apply appropriate theoretical frameworks in conducting literary research. The academic discussion also served as a learning platform for students to engage with scholarly perspectives and gain insights from an experienced academic outside their home institution.
The event reflects FIB USU’s commitment to improving the quality of higher education through academic enrichment and knowledge exchange. By providing opportunities to learn from experts in the field, the Indonesian Literature Study Program continues to encourage students to develop their academic competencies and engage more deeply with contemporary issues in literary studies.
Through this initiative, FIB USU hopes to foster a more comprehensive understanding of literature and strengthen students’ readiness to conduct rigorous, relevant, and critical academic research.
The guest lecture demonstrates FIB USU’s commitment to advancing academic excellence, strengthening literary research, and encouraging critical engagement with contemporary literary issues.
