FIB USU PR - On Thursday, April 16, 2026, the History Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FIB USU), conducted a field study as part of its applied learning approach for students. The activity was held over four days, from Thursday to Sunday, April 16–19, 2026, in Samosir.
This field study was part of several courses, namely Cultural Outreach, Tourism Archaeology, Historical Documentary Film Production, and Historical Journalism. Through this activity, students were expected to integrate the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with direct field experience.

The program commenced with an official send-off ceremony for the students at the FIB USU courtyard, represented by the expert staff member, Dr. Zulfan, S.S., M.Hum. On that occasion, he formally sent off the group of History students to participate in the field study.
Throughout the activity, the students were accompanied by lecturers from the History Study Program, namely Dr. Lila Pelita Hati, M.Si., Dra. Junita Setiana Ginting, M.Si., Prof. Drs. Suprayitno, M.Hum., Ph.D., Dr. Drs. Edi Sumarno, M.Hum., and M. Azis Rizky Lubis, S.S., M.A., who provided guidance and direction during each field observation.
The field study included visits and observations to various significant historical and cultural sites in Samosir and its surrounding areas, including Tomok, Kampung Ulos Hutaraja, Aek Sipitudai, Tatea Bulan, Tano Ponggol Bridge, Aek Rangat, Museum Rumah Kaca, Huta Siallagan, and Sidamanik Tea Plantation.
Through this activity, students not only gained theoretical understanding but also acquired empirical experience by directly observing historical and cultural heritage. In addition, the program served as a platform for students to develop their skills in documentation, historical journalism writing, and documentary film production based on field research.
This field study reflects FIB USU’s commitment to delivering interactive, contextual, and relevant learning experiences, while also enhancing students’ awareness of the importance of preserving the nation’s historical and cultural heritage.
