FIB USU PR -  On Wednesday–Friday, August 13–15, 2025, the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of North Sumatra, through its World Class University (WCU) program, held an event titled "Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage through the Documentation of Southeast Asian Oral Traditions." This event featured an international speaker, Asst. Prof. Jirayudh Sinthuphan, Ph.D., from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, and was held online via Zoom.

 

The event aimed to enhance the academic knowledge and skills of lecturers, students, and researchers in identifying, documenting, and analyzing oral traditions based on local wisdom. The material presented covered three main topics: Parameters of Local Wisdom (August 13, 2025), Research Methods in Local Wisdom – Data Collection (August 14, 2025), and Research Methods in Local Wisdom – Data Analysis (August 15, 2025). This discussion is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding, from the conceptual framework to the practical stages of field research.

 

This activity features experts in the study of local wisdom and the documentation of oral traditions. The presence of these speakers is expected to strengthen participants' global perspectives in understanding and applying relevant research methods, thus enabling broader participation from various regions in Indonesia and even abroad. Participants included academics, students, researchers, and cultural practitioners, all interested in the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. This diverse background of participants added value to the discussion process, as it enabled the exchange of ideas across disciplines and cultures.
