On August 18, 2023, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the New Student Campus Life Orientation (PKKMB) activities. The first-day event took place at USU Mini Stadium. At 06:00 AM WIB, all new USU students arrived at the stadium. The PKKMB activities began with singing the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya, and the Mars USU, led by Indah Aqila. This was followed by a report from the Head of PKKMB USU 2023, Mr. Doli Muhammad Jafar Dalimunthe, S.E., M.Si., and remarks from the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si.
The next session featured an Inspiring Speech by Fiki Naki.
After the activities at USU Mini Stadium concluded, the event proceeded with the official handover of new USU students to the Deans of Faculties at USU, followed by the mobilization of students to their respective faculties.

At 10:00 AM WIB, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) students arrived at USU’s Pancasila Hall. The event began with a speech from the Dean of FIB USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., who introduced all faculty leaders, including the Vice Deans I, II, and III, all Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, and all Faculty Subdivision Heads. After the Dean’s remarks, the event continued with a socialization session featuring a video from PUSPRESMA and ORMAWA.
At 1:30 PM WIB, after the lunch and prayer break (ISOMA), the activities resumed. The first session was a presentation on National Insight by Drs. Edi Sumarno, M.Hum. He discussed national life, statehood, and national defense awareness, covering four key topics: Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), Prevention and countermeasures against intolerance, radicalism, terrorism, and the spread of opposing ideologies, National defense, and Mental revolution.
Next, Prof. Dr. Drs. Jonner Hasugian, M.Si., presented on The Higher Education System in Indonesia, explaining three main points: The Indonesian Higher Education System, the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), and the Organizations and Services at USU.
Before the final presentation, Sri Bunga, a new student from the Ethnomusicology Study Program and a Top 19 finalist in Dangdut Academy 2022, showcased her singing talent.
The final session was a presentation on Intellectual Character and Anti-Violence by Prof. Dra. Pujiati, M.Soc.Sc., Ph.D. She elaborated on student character development as intellectuals and the issue of violence (anti-bullying), focusing on prevention and handling of sexual violence and bullying and developing effective personal habits.
The first day’s activities concluded with closing remarks by the Head of PKKMB FIB USU 2023, Mr. Muhammad Azis Rizky Lubis, S.S., M.A. Finally, student association seniors from each study program guided the new students to return to their respective homes.
