On Thursday, June 4, 2026, students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully held a Western classical music performance titled “Waves of Melody” at the FIB Performance Hall. This activity was an implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in the Arts Tourism Management course, aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in designing, managing, and executing a professional stage performance.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Zulfan, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Relations of FIB USU, who expressed appreciation for the students’ creativity in applying project-based learning that emphasizes not only theoretical understanding but also real-world practice.

The program continued with remarks from the Head of the Study Program, Dra. Rithaony, M.A., who emphasized that such activities are essential in developing students’ competencies, particularly in arts management, creativity, and teamwork skills.

Furthermore, Hubari Gulo, S.Sn., M.Sn., the course lecturer, delivered guidance and appreciation for the students’ hard work in successfully organizing the event. He emphasized that PBL is a learning approach that bridges academic theory with the needs of the creative industry.
The event was attended by faculty leaders, lecturers, students, and invited guests who enthusiastically witnessed the classical music performance presented by FIB USU students.

Carrying the theme “Waves of Melody,” the performance featured a series of Western classical music pieces that highlighted rich harmony and deep musical expression. Each performance offered the audience an immersive aesthetic experience through elegant and structured musical arrangements.

In addition to serving as a learning medium, this activity also became a platform for developing students’ creativity, communication skills, leadership, and event management abilities. The entire production process from planning to execution was carried out directly by students as part of their course learning outcomes.

The performance ran smoothly and received positive appreciation from the audience. The quality of the performance, stage design, and event management demonstrated the students’ success in applying professional arts management concepts.

Through the Project-Based Learning activity “Waves of Melody,” FIB USU reaffirms its commitment to delivering innovative, applied, and competency-based learning. This activity is expected to inspire students to continue creating and contributing to the arts and cultural industries.

The event concluded with appreciation awards for all committee members and performers, followed by a group photo session as a form of recognition for the hard work and collaboration of all parties involved.
