HUMAS FIB USU - On Wednesday, 7 October 2026, the Directorate of Innovation, Educational Digitalization, and Learning Development (DITP3I) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) organized the Textbook and Book Chapter Writing Workshop, featuring two speakers: Prof. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Forestry, USU, and Prof. Dr. Drs. Jonner Hasugian, M.Si., from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU. The event was held online via Zoom Meeting, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The workshop adopted the theme “Strategies and Techniques for Writing High-Quality Books to Support Higher Education Learning.” It was intended for USU lecturers as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen their academic competencies in writing and developing high-quality educational materials.
Prof. Jonner Hasugian’s participation as a speaker reflects the involvement of FIB USU academics in strengthening lecturers’ capacities, particularly in developing academic publications in the form of textbooks and book chapters. These academic works can serve as valuable learning resources, presenting knowledge in a structured manner while enriching references available to students and the wider academic community.
The workshop also featured Prof. Mohammad Basyuni from the Faculty of Forestry, USU, as a speaker, with Dr. T. Henny Febriana Harumy, S.Kom., M.Kom., from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FASILKOM-TI), USU, serving as the moderator. The involvement of speakers from different academic disciplines provided an opportunity for cross-faculty collaboration to improve the quality of academic writing and learning across the university.
Through this initiative, USU encourages lecturers to continuously develop their skills in writing textbooks and book chapters that meet the needs of higher education. These efforts are expected to strengthen the availability of learning resources, improve the quality of education, and foster a stronger academic and scholarly publishing culture across the university.
