On Friday, June 12, 2026, the Mandarin Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully organized the Mandarin Speech & Chinese Talent Competition 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall of FIB USU. The event was held in collaboration with the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Medan as part of efforts to promote Mandarin language proficiency, appreciation of Chinese culture, and stronger cultural and educational ties between nations.

The event was attended by H.E. (His Excellency) Huang He, Representative of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Medan; Ngartini Huang, Principal of Jade Music and competition judge; Li Yujun Laoshi, Visiting Lecturer from China and competition judge; lecturers, competition participants, and students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., who expressed his gratitude for the successful organization of the competition and extended his appreciation to all committee members and supporting parties whose contributions made the event possible.

In his remarks, the Dean emphasized that the Mandarin Speech & Chinese Talent Competition 2026 serves as a valuable platform for young people to develop their Mandarin language skills, showcase their talents and creativity, and broaden their cross-cultural perspectives. He noted that activities such as this are not merely competitive events but also important opportunities to strengthen cultural understanding and friendship between Indonesia and China through education and cultural exchange.

“This competition provides an excellent platform for young people to develop their Mandarin language skills, showcase their talents, and foster greater cultural understanding and friendship among nations,” the Dean stated in his speech.

He also encouraged all participants to compete with enthusiasm, confidence, and a strong sense of sportsmanship. Beyond serving as a platform for demonstrating their abilities, the competition was expected to provide valuable learning experiences that would enhance participants’ language proficiency and global communication skills.

The competition featured a variety of impressive performances and Mandarin speech presentations, highlighting the participants’ enthusiasm and remarkable abilities in both Mandarin language mastery and performing arts. Their performances received positive appreciation from the panel of judges and distinguished guests in attendance.

Through this event, the Mandarin Study Program of FIB USU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of students’ and young people's competencies in foreign languages, cross-cultural communication, and international networking. The collaboration with the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Medan also represents a strategic effort to strengthen academic and cultural relations between Indonesia and China.

The event concluded with the announcement of the winners, the presentation of awards to outstanding participants, a group photo session, and a shared hope that similar programs will continue to be organized in the future as platforms for nurturing the talents and potential of young people in the fields of language and culture.
